Extremities Furnace Pro Gloves

How warm they keep your hands at camp and on the move. 7: Better than most.

Estimate from maker's specs

How much they add to your pack. 7: Better than most.

91 g for the pair, Extremities' figure on its Terra Nova webshop page (no size given; Terra Nova's size data shows 91 g only against XS, so it may be for a small size): the 60-109 g band. The Great Outdoors weighed 115 g in size L, which would be the 110-179 g band, band 3 (5 out of 10). A tester's figure doesn't change the band, so Extremities' figure is the one banded and the difference is in the weaknesses.

How well they keep your hands dry and the wind out, from how they are made. 4: A bit below average.

Extremities' own X-Dry membrane, described as a 'PFC-free waterproof insert' with a 10,000 mm hydrostatic head, but nowhere stated as sealed. The method's 4 band needs a sealed waterproof insert and doesn't band gloves by mm, so a stated HH figure doesn't change the band: a glove with its own membrane and no statement that the insert is sealed is the 2 band, the same call as the OEX Summit Waterproof Gloves. The page's 'Waterproof' badge only says 'rigorously tested to ensure you stay dry in wet conditions'. The line 'Seal Integrity Validation at key stress points and seams' comes from a site-wide 'Waterproof Guarantee' explainer on every Terra Nova, Wild Country and Extremities page (it names tents, jackets and gloves alike), not from a statement about this glove's insert, so it isn't used. It would be the 4 band if Extremities said the insert is sealed.
