Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Weight
From maker's figures 2/10How much it adds to your pack. This is the whole tent: two people sharing can split it. 2: A weak point.
Exped's minimum weight of 2.8 kg is in the 2.7 kg+ band (3.2 kg packed with everything). Two people sharing carry about 1.4 to 1.6 kg each. OUTDOOR magazin weighed its test tent at 2.99 kg.
Rain protection
From maker's figures 8/10How well it keeps out heavy, long rain. 8: Clearly better than most.
Exped gives the fly as 3,000 mm water column, in the 3,000 mm+ band, and the floor as 10,000 mm, so no point is taken off. The printed figure alone gives 8 at most: a 9 or 10 needs 3 reviews that say it stays dry in real storms.
Wind
Estimate: only 1 review about wind (fewer than the 3 we need, so never above 8) 8/10How steady it stays in strong wind on open ground. 8: Clearly better than most.
Outdoor Magazin measured no loss of space at 130 km/h lengthways and 120 km/h sideways. It flattened at 145 and 130 km/h respectively, bending or breaking poles; the score reflects those failures at the test limits.
Space
From maker's figures 7/10Room to lie, sit up and keep kit inside. 7: Better than most.
Exped's 2.9 m² canopy area for two people is 1.45 m² each, in the 1.35-1.59 m² band. The inner is 225 cm long. OUTDOOR magazin measured 2.5 m² and a 200 cm lying length, so the real figure may be lower.
Packed size
From maker's figures 4/10How much room it takes in your rucksack. 4: A bit below average.
Exped's packed size is 40 x 19 cm: 3.1416 x 9.5 x 9.5 x 40 = 11,341 cm³, so 11.34 L, in the 10-14.9 L band. OUTDOOR magazin measured 9.1 L; we use Exped's own figure.
In short
Good for
- Two people on four-season trips who want a strong, roomy tent and can carry the weight
- Autumn and spring UK hills, where wind matters more than weight
- Shared carrying, at about 1.4 to 1.6 kg each
Strengths
- Wind-tested by OUTDOOR magazin to 120 to 130 km/h before it lost its shape
- Fly 3,000 mm and floor 10,000 mm
- Four-season rating with a 225 cm inner for two
- Fairly small packed at 40 x 19 cm for a tent this strong
- Excellent pitching in OUTDOOR magazin's test
Weaknesses
- Heavy: 2.8 kg minimum, 3.2 kg complete
- Packed 40 x 19 cm (11.3 L), above the 10 L mark
- Only one independent test of this exact tent, so wind, pitching and durability are estimates, not reviewed scores
- OUTDOOR magazin measured the inner at 2.5 m², below Exped's 2.9 m²
