Our ratings (out of 10)

1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score

Weight

From maker's figures 2/10

How much it adds to your pack. This is the whole tent: two people sharing can split it. 2: A weak point.

Shops give approx. 2.75 kg (GO Outdoors, Millets, Tiso), in the 2.7 kg+ band. Off the Arrow Shelf weighed 2.73 kg, the same band.

Rain protection

From maker's figures 5/10

How well it keeps out heavy, long rain. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.

Fly 2,000 mm HH is in the 2,000-2,999 band, band 4 (7 out of 10). The PE floor has no published hydrostatic head, so 1 point comes off. (The UK Camp Site's older copy says 3,000 mm fly and 1,500 mm floor, but GO Outdoors, Millets and Tiso agree on 2,000 mm.)

Wind

Estimate from maker's specs: maker's season rating (fewer than 3 reviews about wind) 5/10

How steady it stays in strong wind on open ground. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.

No published review says how it copes with wind, so this is an estimate from the maker's season rating.

Space

Estimate from maker's specs: berths and tent shape (no floor area published) 5/10

Room to lie, sit up and keep kit inside. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.

Estimate from maker's specs

Packed size

From maker's figures 4/10

How much room it takes in your rucksack. 4: A bit below average.

GO Outdoors and Millets give 61 x 15 x 15 cm, a roll 61 cm long and 15 cm across: 3.1416 x 7.5 x 7.5 x 61 = 10,779 cm³, so 10.78 L, in the 10-14.9 L band. Tiso prints 61 x 13 cm, which would be 8.1 L and a better band, so we use the figure two shops agree on.

What reviewers say (out of 10)

Ratings marked * are from reviews and are not part of the trip score. They are reviewers' scores, not our own measurements. How we score

Pitching*

Reviewers' average 8/10

How quickly and easily one person can pitch it, including in wind and rain.

3 reviews on pitching, e.g. "making it pretty easy to erect the outer first".

Durability*

Estimate: only 2 reviews about durability (fewer than the 3 we need, so never above 8) 6/10

How well the fabric, poles, zips and seams hold up over seasons of use.

2 reviews on durability, e.g. "The tent poles ended up being a bit rusty on the ends".

In short

Good for

  • Occasional campers, festivals and scout camps in dry or showery weather
  • One person with kit, or two people who accept a tight fit

Strengths

  • Easy to pitch: two poles in sleeves, outer first or all in one
  • Extended porch gives space for boots, and the inner tent is well ventilated (SaltNPepperChips)
  • Compact dome that packs into its own bag (Off the Arrow Shelf)

Weaknesses

  • Heavy: about 2.75 kg for two people, with heavy fibreglass poles
  • Fly only 2,000 mm HH and no published figure for the floor
  • Flaps in a gentle breeze and is not for strong wind or prolonged rain (SaltNPepperChips)
  • Cheap materials and flimsy pegs; Off the Arrow Shelf re-proofed it and saw rusty pole ends after weeks outside
  • Tight for two with rucksacks; a single door with only a part-mesh inner door
  • Shops give two different packed sizes (61 x 15 and 61 x 13 cm)
  • Eurohike gives no season rating: the 3-season figure above is our own assumption, and reviewers use it in settled weather only
