Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Weight for its size
From maker's figures 9/10How much it adds to your pack for the water it holds. 9: Among the best you can buy for this.
Cnoc lists 63 g for 1 L: 63 g per litre, under 100 g/L. Ultralight Outdoor Gear lists 62 g, which bands the same.
Packed size (empty)
From maker's figures 4/10How much room it takes up when it is empty, for the water it holds. 4: A bit below average.
A rigid bottle does not shrink, so we draw it as a cylinder from its height and width. Cnoc gives 30.5 cm tall and 7.4 cm across: 3.1416 x 3.7 x 3.7 x 30.5 = 1,312 cm³, so 1.31 L empty for 1 L held, in the 1.3–1.79 band (just inside it). Treated as a box (7.4 x 7.4 x 30.5 cm) it would be 1.67 L, still band 2.
In short
Good for
- A reusable swap for a 1 L disposable water bottle: same slim 7.4 cm body, fits narrow side pockets
- A 28 mm bottle for Sawyer, Platypus QuickDraw, LifeStraw Flex and HydroBlu filters (Cnoc)
- Hikers who want a squeezable bottle with measuring marks
Strengths
- 63 g for 1 L (63 g per litre), under the 100 g/L line for the top weight score
- Slim 7.4 cm body fits narrow side and shoulder-strap pockets
- Squeezable HDPE body, 27 g lighter than the first ThruBottle (Halfway Anywhere)
- Tethered cap, embossed measuring lines and a pull string near the cap (Cnoc)
- Rated from 0 °C to 80 °C (Cnoc)
Weaknesses
- Rigid: takes 1.31 L of pack room whether full or empty
- Cnoc advises keeping hot liquids under 80 °C and short, so it is not a hot-water bottle
- Narrow 28 mm mouth is hard to clean (Halfway Anywhere) and to add ice or tablets to (CleverHiker)
- Mouth edge is a bit sharp (CleverHiker)
- Only two tests of this version found, so ease of use and durability are estimates, not reviewed scores
