Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Warmth
From maker's figures 7/10How well it stops the cold ground chilling you. 7: Better than most.
Big Agnes gives an R-value of 4.3 and says all its R-values follow ASTM F3340-18, in the R 4 to 5.4 band. Better Trail found it lacking in insulation on cool alpine nights of about 5 °C, while GearJunkie only felt the ground on one night below freezing.
Thickness
From maker's figures 9/10How deep it is. Deeper is comfier, above all for side sleepers. 9: Among the best you can buy for this.
9 cm thick.
Quietness
From reviews 8/10How little it crinkles or squeaks when you turn over. 8: Clearly better than most.
Reviewers are split: one heard nothing, one heard a noticeable crinkle (still quieter than the NeoAir XLite), one called it quiet.
Reviewers disagree on this.
Weight
From maker's figures 9/10How much it adds to your pack. 9: Among the best you can buy for this.
Big Agnes gives 397 g for the regular, under the 400 g line (CleverHiker weighed about the same). Ultralight Outdoor Gear lists 405 g, which would be the next band down.
Packed size

Big Agnes gives 20 cm long and 10 cm across, about 1.6 L, in the 1.5 to 2.4 L band. Ultralight Outdoor Gear lists 9 x 22 cm (1.4 L), which would be the band above.

In short
Good for
- Three-season wild camps down to about freezing with a warm enough bag
- Walkers who want a full-width rectangular mat close to the weight of mummy mats
- Side and restless sleepers who like thick outer chambers keeping them on the mat
Strengths
- 397 g for a mat with R 4.3
- Rectangular 51 cm width with 9 cm outer chambers keeps you from rolling off (Advnture, CleverHiker)
- Packs to about 20 x 10 cm
- Pump sack, repair patches and a replacement valve seal come in the box
Weaknesses
- Single valve is slow to deflate and fiddly to pack away (GearJunkie, Better Trail, CleverHiker)
- Slippery nylon top lets a sleeping bag slide
- Thin shell: Better Trail calls it fragile, so keep it off bare ground
- Real warmth is below the rating for some testers: Better Trail found it lacking on cool alpine nights
- Mostly short-term tests: the longest we found is 20 nights
