Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Warmth
From maker's figures 2/10How well it stops the cold ground chilling you. 2: A weak point.
Big Agnes lists R 1.7, under the R 2 line: summer only, or a layer under an air mat. Big Agnes's support page says all its R-values follow ASTM F3340-18.
Thickness
From maker's figures 1/10How deep it is. Deeper is comfier, above all for side sleepers. 1: A real weak point.
1.3 cm thick.
Quietness
Estimate from maker's specs: foam mats make no noise 8/10How little it crinkles or squeaks when you turn over. 8: Clearly better than most.
A foam mat makes no noise when you turn over.
Weight
From maker's figures 9/10How much it adds to your pack. 9: Among the best you can buy for this.
397 g (Tiso's page, copying Big Agnes's figure; Big Agnes's own shop data converts to about 399 g) is under the 400 g line.
Packed size
From maker's figures 1/10How much room it takes in or on your rucksack. 1: A real weak point.
Big Agnes publishes no packed size. Foam can't compress, so the least it can take up is its flat volume: 183 x 51 x 1.3 = 12,133 cm3, about 12.1 L, in the 7 L+ band. Outdoors Magic says it is not the most packable and straps outside a pack.

Comfort*
Estimate: only 2 reviews about comfort (fewer than the 3 we need, so never above 8) 6/10How comfy it is, including for side sleepers.
2 reviews on comfort, e.g. "Very very thin. Lowest R Value. Least comfortable.".
Reviewers disagree on this.
In short
Good for
- Summer wild camps on warm nights, when you want a mat that can't puncture
- A tough layer under an air mat on cold ground or snow
- A dry seat for breaks and a back-up if an air mat fails
Strengths
- Cannot puncture or leak, so no repair kit and no pump
- More than 60% of the EVA foam is sugarcane resin (Big Agnes figure), an unusual choice for a foam mat
- Smooth side and a tread-pattern side, so you can choose which faces up
Weaknesses
- Only R 1.7 and 13 mm thick: summer only on its own, and firm on hard ground
- Bulky: about 12 L rolled, and it has to go outside the pack
- Reviewers rank comfort low against air and self-inflating mats
- No packed size published by Big Agnes
