Our ratings (out of 10)

1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score

Warmth

From maker's figures 7/10

How cold a night you can sleep comfortably through. 7: Better than most.

The shop copy of Big Agnes's spec table gives ISO comfort -2 °C (limit -8 °C) for the Regular, in the -4.9 to 0 °C band. The maker's figure, not re-tested; Alpinetrek also gives comfort -2 °C and limit -9 °C. The bag is named for -7 °C, which is its limit, not a comfort figure.

Room inside

Estimate from maker's specs: maker's shoulder girth (fewer than 3 reviews about room) 4/10

How much room to move, bend your knees and sleep on your side. Roomier is comfier. 4: A bit below average.

No review we found says how roomy it is, so this is an estimate from the maker's shoulder girth.

Weight

From maker's figures 6/10

How much it adds to your pack. 6: A bit better than average.

Alpinetrek's copy of the Big Agnes spec table gives 1,010 g for the Regular, in the 1,000-1,299 g band, only just inside it. Ultralight Outdoor Gear lists 998 g, which would be the 700-999 g band (the 4 band), so this score is the cautious reading.

Packed size

From maker's figures 1/10

How much room it takes in your rucksack. 1: A real weak point.

No litre figure is published. Alpinetrek and Ultralight Outdoor Gear both give the Regular's stuff sack as 51 x 23 cm, a cylinder: 3.1416 x 11.5 x 11.5 x 51 = 21,189 cm³, so 21.2 L, in the 13 L+ band.

In short

Good for

  • Three-season backpacking and wild camps from spring to autumn on a mid-range budget
  • Campers who want a down bag with water-repellent treated fill for a damp UK tent
  • Side sleepers who find very narrow mummy bags tight

Strengths

  • 1.01 kg with 539 g of 650-fill water-repellent DownTek down
  • ISO comfort -2 °C and limit -8 °C, with the same recycled shell and lining fabrics as the cheaper Anthracite
  • Relaxed mummy shape with a contoured hood, no-draft collar and no-draft zip
  • Zip can be mated with the Women's bag to share a tent

Weaknesses

  • No independent hands-on test or review found, so damp, comfort and durability are estimates, not reviewed scores
  • 650-fill down is heavier and bulkier than the 800-fill used in lighter bags, and the supplied stuff sack is a big one of about 21 L
  • The maker's -7 °C name is the limit rating: use the -2 °C comfort figure for planning
