Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Weight
From maker's figures 8/10How much it adds to your pack. 8: Clearly better than most.
Ready to cook on is the burner plus its pot support. Alpkit's parts list gives burner 45 g and wind guard/pot stand 29 g (the wind guard is also the pot stand, so it counts): 45 + 29 = 74 g, worked from Alpkit's own figures. The snuff lid (10 g), empty fuel bottle (14 g) and carry bag (7 g) are not counted; Alpkit's 105 g is the whole system, and 84 g with the lid. The Great Outdoors gives the burner at 88 g. All of these are in the 60-119 g band.
Packed size
From maker's figures 5/10How much room it takes in your rucksack. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.
Alpkit gives the packed size as 80 mm across and 100 mm high, which includes the fuel bottle. Worked as a cylinder: 3.14 x 4 x 4 x 10 = 503 cm3, about 0.503 L, in the 0.2-0.59 L band. The stand alone is 72 mm by 78 mm (0.318 L, the same band) and The Great Outdoors gives 75 x 80 mm (0.353 L, the same band).
Boil speed (still air)
Estimate from maker's specs: fuel type (no boil time published) 1/10How fast the maker says it boils 1 litre in still air. Wind slows every stove: see Wind performance. 1: A real weak point.

In short
Good for
- Solo trips where the stove and mug need to pack into one small kit: it nests inside Alpkit's MyTiMug 400
- Boiling water for a hot drink or one small meal in a pot of 350-400 ml
- Quiet, simple cooking on a non-petroleum fuel: bioethanol, methylated spirits or denatured alcohol
Strengths
- Complete in the box: burner, three-piece wind guard that doubles as the pot stand, snuff lid, 80 ml fuel bottle and carry bag (Alpkit)
- 74 g for burner and wind guard/pot stand (Alpkit's parts list); 105 g for the whole system with lid, bottle and bag
- Nests inside the MyTiMug 400 (mug not included)
- Near silent and burns non-petroleum fuel (The Great Outdoors)
- Snuff lid with a letterbox opening puts the flame out safely
- 3 year Alpine Bond (Alpkit's return, repair or replace promise)
Weaknesses
- Slow: 400 ml took 12 min 30 s and 40 ml of fuel in the Great Outdoors' controlled test
- No flame control. In strong wind flames come out of the wind guard slots and boiling takes longer (The Great Outdoors)
- Narrow, so it needs level ground and small cups; the mug's folding handles are not insulated (The Great Outdoors)
- Sold only by Alpkit; the MyTiMug 400 it nests in is a separate purchase
- Only one independent review of the MytiBurner itself was found, so wind and control are estimates, not reviewed scores
