What reviewers say (out of 10)
Ratings marked * are from reviews and are not part of the trip score. They are reviewers' scores, not our own measurements. How we score
Wind performance*
Estimate: only 2 reviews about wind performance (fewer than the 3 we need, so never above 8) 8/10How well it keeps boiling in a breeze.
2 reviews on wind performance, e.g. "I can even let it simmer in moderately windy conditions and it doesn't blow out.".
Simmer control*
Estimate: only 2 reviews about simmer control (fewer than the 3 we need, so never above 8) 8/10How low the flame turns down without going out, for real cooking.
2 reviews on simmer control, e.g. "it does go down to a nice simmer and I've cooked nicely.".
In short
Good for
- Day walks and overnighters where a quick brew matters more than weight
- Use with other pans: the pan support in the box fits standard pots
Strengths
- 1.2 L pot (Alpkit suggests 1.0 L), with the burner, stands and a 100 g canister packing inside (Alpkit)
- Alpkit quotes 2 min 27 s for 500 ml at room temperature
- Sam Redfearn found it better in wind than a Jetboil
- The valve allows a simmer, so it can heat soup and one-pot meals (Alpkit)
Weaknesses
- 585 g is heavy next to light tower systems
- The pot lock does not turn fully and the handle is flimsy when full (Sam Redfearn)
- The piezo igniter can fail: Sam Redfearn's first one stopped after four months, so carry a lighter
- A canister-top burner: Alpkit lists no hose, no pressure regulator and no cold rating, so we do not mark it winter-ready, although it says the BruKit is great for melting snow in winter
- Alpkit changed the BruKit after 2022 (power, lid, handle), so the older reviews don't count and only one review of the current model has been found
- Only Alpkit sells it, and Alpkit gives no fuel-use figure
